2019 Hurricane Season

Posted by Manager. No Comments

2019 Hurricane Season

Hurricane season began June 1 & continues through November 30

This year, NOAA’s Central Pacific Hurricane Center forecast calls for a 70% chance of above-normal tropical cyclone activity

Now is the time to develop your evacuation plans. Consider the following tips:

  • Gather Emergency Supplies: A battery powered radio, flashlights, lanterns, & extra batteries. Be prepared to monitor storm-related communications issued over emergency broadcast radio stations.
  • Food & Water: Store at least 14 days of water, non-perishable food, medicine, & personal hygiene supplies for you & your family.
  • Listen for Emergency Alert System Warnings: And do exactly as advised. If the warning requires relocation then do so early. Be sure to take necessities such as prescriptions, bedding, food for 7 days, flashlights, a battery powered radio & extra batteries.
  • If You Have to Evacuate: Take all important papers & valuables with you. Turn off all electrical appliances & your circuit breakers. Bring items off your lanai.
  • Prepare a List of Emergency Contacts: Include phone numbers for your insurance agent, physicians & family members.
  • Power Lines: If you see a downed power line, assume it is energized & dangerous. Stay away from downed power lines – at least 40 feet or more.
  • Insurance: Contact your insurance agent to ensure you have adequate homeowner’s or renter’s coverage. Basic rental insurance may not cover your belongings in the event of a hurricane unless you’ve elected that additional coverage. Most insurers will not add coverage when a hurricane is on the way. If you need a quote, please call your agent.
